Boucherouite rugs, made primaly from fabric remnants and various recycled materials, became popular in the central High Atlas during the 90's. These kind of rugs served no representative purpose, which gave the weavers the opportunity to work without the pressure of expectations and to develop a free, playful style. With their impulsive imagery many of the Boucherouite rugs reminds of contemporary paintings.
