It took until 1991 before rugs from the Azilal province were mentioned in a publication. They feature simplistic geometric shapes and patterns with dashes of vibrant colours always on a cream background. Only performed by women of this region, Azilal rugs are made according to a cultural ritual that mothers are passing down to daughters for generations. Over the past 15 years Azilal rugs have attracted a great deal of attention both in the decorative market and for art-loving collectors.
